China's foreign trade rises 2.9% in H1 2025

Guangzhou (JLC), July 14, 2025--China's foreign trade gained 2.9% year on year to 21.79 trillion yuan (about 3.03 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first half (H1) of 2025, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC).

 

The country's exports increased by 7.2% year on year to 13.0 trillion yuan, while imports went down by 2.7% to 8.79 trillion yuan, the data shows.

 

In June alone, China's foreign trade grew by 5.2% year on year to 3.85 trillion yuan, with exports going up by 7.2% to 2.34 trillion yuan and imports climbing by 2.3% to 1.51 trillion yuan.

 

In H1, the country's foreign trade by ordinary trade rose by 1.3% to 13.96 trillion yuan, which accounted for 64.1% of the total. Exports by this trade mode surged by 7.0% to 8.58 trillion yuan, while imports fell by 6.6% to 5.37 trillion yuan, the GACC data indicates.

 

The foreign trade with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China's largest trading partner, soared by 9.6% to 3.67 trillion yuan in the period, which took up 16.9% of China's foreign trade. The exports to the ASEAN leapt by 14.3% to 2.32 trillion yuan, and the imports from the organization swelled by 2.3% to 1.35 trillion yuan.

 

Meanwhile, the trade with the European Union (EU), China's second largest trading partner, rose by 3.5% to 2.82 trillion yuan. The exports to the EU inflated by 7.9% to 1.92 trillion yuan, while the imports from it declined by 4.8% to 895.44 billion yuan.

 

In contrast, the trade with the U.S. dropped by 9.3% to 2.08 trillion yuan, with the exports to the country at 1.55 trillion yuan, down 9.9%, and the imports from it at 530.35 billion yuan, down 7.7%, the GACC data also shows.
